Northern Zambia Map
This fascinating region is home to some of Zambia's more lesser known parks. This area is also where Lake Tanganyika, Sumbu National Park, Kasama, Lusenga Plain National Park all reside. Lake Tanganyika is the world's longest and second deepest lake. It covers a large area of the Great Rift Valley and its waters lap the shores of four countries. Sumbu National Park boasts some of the most beautiful and magical shorelines of Lake Tanganyika. This park has everything from sandy beaches and vertical cliffs to rocky coves. Found on the Kalambo River between Tanzania and Zambia, the magnificent Kalambo falls are the second highest in Africa and the twelfth highest in the world. They fall for an impressive uninterrupted 221m, higher even than the Victoria Falls. The width varies from as little as 2m during the dry season to as much as 15m after the heavy rains, to tumble turbulently into a green pool at the bottom of a gorge, where the rare Maribou stork has been known to nest. This huge mass of water then flows into Lake Tanganyika. |
