This is the Africa of Hemingway and Ruark, of the Imax and of the great wildlife documentaries. Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit is the Africa of our dreams. Great rolling herds of wildlife on plains that seem to stretch forever, lush tropical forests on the slopes of the world's largest volcanic caldera and the gorge called the "Cradle of Mankind" by archaeologists. Over it all loom some of the mightiest mountains in Africa - Kilimanjaro and Meru, with lesser peaks rolling away into the distance. This is the land of red-blanketed Maasai warriors who still herd their cattle through prides of lion and past elephants and rhino with impunity.

Serengeti National Park is Africa's most famous game reserve, and probably it's very best. The Serengeti is acclaimed for the density of its predator population, the phenomenal annual wildebeest migration (every year over two million animals move clockwise around this massive ecosystem in search of grazing and water), the incredible sense of spaciousness on the vast Serengeti plains and the sheer numbers of animals they support.
