Mozambique: Maputo Map

Maputo (previously Lourenzo Marques) is the sprawling capital of Mozambique, with a population of about two million people and a large harbour. Several rivers meet the sea Maputo and two islands (Inhaca and Portuguese Island) lie just off the coast.

The Maputo area is easily accessible by road and air, and offers excellent beach resorts at places like Xai-Xai, tranquil lakes at Bilene, fascinating island culture at Inhaca and a combination of beaches and game in Maputo Elephant Reserve. Other interesting stops are Ponto do Ouro and the Limpopo River Mouth.
